Tips for picking fruit

U-Pick Tips

Tip #1:  Early or late.  I can not stress this enough.  Although in May and parts of June the weather is great, the hotter it gets, the more important it is to stay out of the mid-day heat.  If it is hot, come early or late and everybody will have more fun!!!

Tip #2:  When its hot- wear a hat and put on sunscreen.  Especially with little ones.

Tip #3  The farm will provide picking buckets. Most farms will have smaller sized buckets for kids.

Tip #4  Go for a walk.  The plants near the entrance get picked the most.  Go for a walk and you will usually find plenty of fruit.

Tip #5  LIFT Branches!  Most adults pick the fruit at mid stomach level (where they are the easiest)  If you carefully lift branches, you will often discover prime fruit and it makes picking much easier.  Hint- looking for heavy folliage is a good place to lift branches. Just be careful not to break any branches.

Tip #6:  (My own personal suggestion) Bring a camera!

Tip #7:  For parents, bring a stroller. Most stollers are fine as long as the wheels are pretty big.  A small "umbrella" stroller will not work.  It gets stuck in the ground cover and you will be frustrated.
